191,700 SF Shipping & Production Facility
Cooper Construction built the shipping and production building for Van Wingerden International in Mills River, North Carolina in the late 1980s. 191,700 square feet, with a boiler house construction following the original building.
In October 1992 fire destroyed Van Wingerden's shipping barn. Cooper was on site, in the owner's own words, "with the smoke still coming off the old building," provided the drawings, and had Van Wingerden "back in business in a little over 4 months," in time for the Christmas shipping season.
Years later a second fire took another building. That replacement was more complicated: offices, bathrooms, a refrigerated cooler, a distribution area with loading docks, pallet racking and space for production equipment, each zone carrying its own requirements down to the cooler flooring and how the equipment was mounted.
Cooper also built the reinforced concrete foundation for the site's water tank.
Cooper has built for Van Wingerden across four decades at multiple sites, including a 42,000 square foot potting barn.
