Project Location

Buncombe County, NC

Project Scope

Garage, Equipment Storage and Covered Pipe Racks
Over 42,000 SF, Three Pre-Engineered Structures

Cooper Construction built the Equipment Storage Facility for the Metropolitan Sewerage District of Buncombe County. The District awarded the contract in October 2021 after competitive bidding.

It is three structures rather than one. A 26,260 square foot garage, a 14,800 square foot equipment storage building, and 1,540 square feet of covered pipe racks, all pre-engineered metal buildings on one secured site.

Cooper cleared the ground first. An existing pole barn, a wash bay, pipe racks and stretches of old slab, wall and pier came out before anything new went in. What replaced them is built to work on equipment, not just park it. The garage has a mechanical pit reached by steel stairs, a wash bay draining to an oil and water separator, and an electrical scope sized to run a maintenance shop rather than light a shed.

A sewerage district does not only own pipe. It owns the fleet that keeps the pipe working, and it needs somewhere to keep it and somewhere to fix it.
