Project Location

Mars Hill, NC

Project Scope

27,000 SF Educational Building

Cooper Construction built the Ferguson Health Sciences Center on the campus of Mars Hill University in Mars Hill, North Carolina.

It was built in the middle of a campus that was in session, and the handover date was the first day of the 2016 school year. Cooper made it.

There are 61 rooms across three stories in 27,000 square feet. A lecture hall with tiered seating for 48. Simulation suites, each with four individual simulation rooms plus an ICU and infection control simulation room, with two control rooms observing lab exercises through one-way glass. A clinical skills lab with 10 bays.

The exterior is brick and precast concrete so the building sits with the ones around it, with a glass facade for daylight and a ground floor plaza between classes. The corner entry reads as a landmark from across campus, and inside it the monument staircase is built with 3 inch solid cherry treads and landings on a cherry-wrapped two-tier platform.
