Cooper Construction provided design-build and HVAC services for Lakeside Produce, based in Ontario, Canada. The project included the 822,000-square-foot warehouse facility and a 7,820-square-foot worker housing facility in Mills River, NC. The 15-acre facility is part of a 121-acre site dedicated to hydroponically growing tomatoes and mini-cucumbers for distribution throughout the east coast of the United States. Lakeside Produce's facility is capable of producing 700,000 pounds of tomatoes per acre over a 40-week growing cycle. The facilities were constructed specifically for Lakeside Produce to reduce carbon emissions, recycle water, utilize bio-control insects and insect pollinators, and produce their own power.
