Cooper Construction converted a former skating rink into a church campus for Hendersonville Church in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

The shell was a pre-engineered metal building that had never been meant to be a church. Cooper modified the PEMB framing and exterior wall panels to cut new openings, repaired the roof, replaced gutters and exterior trim, and installed a 9,300 square foot roof deck insulation system.

Everything mechanical and electrical inside is new. Cooper installed the HVAC itself: two Trane 15 ton gas and electric packaged units with economizers, thermostats and CO2 sensors, a 3 ton split system heat pump, Nailor air distribution with louvers and fire dampers, Cook exhaust fans and spiral piping. Plumbing rough-in and fixtures, under-slab drainage rework, an addressable fire alarm system and full electrical distribution went in with it.

The finished building is 13,675 square feet: a sanctuary, a lobby and lounge, classrooms and staff offices. Custom storefront glazing in a black Kynar finish opens onto level 4 drywall, LVT and carpet tile, solid oak stage flooring and about 3,500 square feet of acoustical ceiling grid.
