Greer, SC
11,400 SF - Two Buildings
New Site Utilities
Cooper Construction built the Rental Car Maintenance Facility at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in Greer, South Carolina for the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport Commission.
The job replaced what four rental car brands had been working out of. Cooper demolished the existing Hertz, Avis, National and Budget maintenance buildings and put up two in their place, 6,820 and 4,580 square feet. Each got its own car wash, fuel island and canopy, fuel containment and tanks, vacuum systems and vehicle lifts.
Undercut excavation came first, 7,703 cubic yards of unsuitable soil removed and replaced before the underground work could start. Water and sewer utilities work included the 8 inch sewer main and an 18 inch bore and jack where the line had to cross without opening the ground. Storm drainage, oil separators and manholes went in as well. Asphalt and macadam base, concrete pavement, pole lighting, fencing and gates, signage and pavement marking were installed above the utilities.
All of it inside the fence of an operating international airport. The rental car counters kept renting cars and the roads feeding them stayed open the whole time. The engineer of record described Cooper's building, water and sewer work as "of good quality and expedited in a timely fashion," and said he "would not hesitate giving them an excellent recommendation."
