Project Scope

24,233 SF Renovation

Cooper Construction completed a 24,233 square-foot renovation and addition to a 1962-era armory for the N.C. Army National Guard, transforming it into a modern readiness center for the 163rd Area Support Medical Company and Detachment 1 of the 211th Military Police Company. The project included renovating 16,500 SF of existing space and adding 7,500 SF of new construction to create updated facilities including an assembly hall, classrooms, administrative offices, fitness areas, kitchen, and storage spaces.

The team successfully overcame the challenges of renovating an older facility while maintaining operations—both military companies were able to conduct weekend training in the building during construction. Cooper Construction also relocated the main entrance and added enhanced security features to meet current military standards while ensuring code compliance and accessibility.

Delivered for $2.7 million, this project became the N.C. Army National Guard's first LEED Silver certified readiness center. Site improvements included expanded parking and military vehicle storage compounds on the 5-acre property, with the architect noting the exceptional cost-effectiveness of the facility improvements achieved.
