Cooper Construction Chosen For Henderson County Emergency Services Headquarters

Cooper Construction Company has been chosen to be the general contractor for the Henderson County Emergency Services Headquarters, according to the Henderson County Board of Commissioners.

The 57,500 SF facility will be built at the current site of the Balfour Education Center once they move to their new home in the Career Academy located at the current site of Blue Ridge Community College. The new facility, designed by Clark-Nexsen, will provide more room for staff, storage, training and vehicles for the county EMS, rescue squad and emergency management.

Cooper Construction was selected over three other formidable regional contractors based on a 120 point scale utilizing a pre-qualification rating matrix. Significant attention was given to previous projects with Henderson County of which Cooper has completed over 30 in their 50-year history. Also considered was past experience with Clark-Nexsen as well as similar project experience including EMS facilities, fire departments and operation centers. Previous Construction Management at Risk experience as well as experience of project managers, superintendents, estimators and executives in charge were also considered. Contractors responded to an RFQ, made a presentation at a later date and the decision was voted on during the commissioners meeting on August 17th.

Demo at the Balfour Education Center will begin in June 2017 with construction starting by September 2017. The 13.6M project is scheduled to be completed by August 2018.
