Case Study

Christ School Wellness Center and Administrative Offices

Industry

Project Location

Arden, NC

Project Scope

5,047 SF New Building

Cooper Construction built the wellness center and administrative offices at Christ School in Arden, North Carolina.

A 1930s one-story dormitory stood on the site. It was structurally unsound and came down.

The replacement is 5,047 square feet, Type VB construction in concrete, stone, metal trusses and prefabricated wood trusses, with the rooftop mechanical screened. Pitched roofs carry asphalt shingles and the central low-slope roof is TPO. The walls are a blend of salvaged and new stone, which is how a new building on a 1930s campus stops looking new. Windows and doors are wood-clad aluminum.

A 768 square foot patio sits along the east side, held by stone retaining walls and paved in concrete pavers. Heating is gas-fired forced air with rooftop package units for cooling.
