Project Scope

21,000 SF New Building

Cooper Construction completed this comprehensive 30,500 square-foot construction equipment dealership facility for Ascendum Machinery. The project features a pre-engineered Varco-Pruden metal building with a 38-foot eave height, designed to accommodate two 10-ton bridge cranes and future expansion. The facility includes eight service bays with specialized vehicle exhaust systems, a dedicated wash bay, parts storage with mezzanine, retail showroom, and employee facilities.

Throughout the project, Cooper Construction worked closely with the design team to provide cost estimating and value engineering solutions. Our strategic approach included optimizing the design to reduce costs while maintaining full functionality, such as eliminating the sprinkler system through intelligent fire wall placement and refining structural systems.

The facility incorporates specialized construction features required for heavy equipment operations, including 10-inch thick concrete floors with steel fiber reinforcing designed for heavy loads, crane support structures, Class 1 Division 2 electrical systems in service areas, industrial HVAC with infrared heating, and multiple oversized coiling doors for equipment access.

Extensive site improvements include heavy-duty paving, gravel storage areas, storm drainage systems, and a lift station.
Ascendum Machinery has represented Volvo construction equipment for over 65 years and is headquartered in Charlotte, NC. This Mills River facility serves the Western North Carolina market with sales, rentals, spare parts, and service for Volvo construction equipment.
