Cooper Construction built the addition to the Anspach Advanced Manufacturing School at Mayland Community College in Burnsville, North Carolina.

The school houses a Duke Energy Foundation metal printer that produced 25 to 30 parts in 2022, among them fishing rod components, hospital equipment and aircraft parts. One user described emailing a design and having the part two days later instead of waiting three to four months.

The permit describes the work plainly as welding and classroom space. The addition is 12,599 square feet and takes the building to 22,387.

Since the school opened, students have earned 197 certificates, diplomas and degrees in Applied Engineering, with about 140 graduates placed with local industry.
